Leaving a phone message

Watch these videos about leaving phone messges.

Things to do with time

Check out this website I just found! There are a lot of awesome activities to do with reading the time!

SMS- Text messaging

Knowing how to send a text message is very important. Also, people sometimes write things you might not understand.

Here is an example

Hi J, how r u? R u going to school 2day? I haven't done my homework. LOL! I think the teacher will b angry! C u l8r! xo

For example, did you know that LOL means 'laugh out loud'? That means that the person thinks something is funny. Also 'u'= you, 'c' = see; 'r'= are, 'b' = be, 'l8r'= later, '2day'= today. I will go through more of this in class with you but here is a website that will help you are bit!

Subject: Visiting Melbourne!

Hi Tara! How are you? What's new? How is Melbourne?

I'm pretty good. Perth is really hot at the moment and I am scared to go to the beach because there have been a lot of sharks around! Scary!!!

Anyway, I am going to be visiting Melbourne at Christmas! I can't wait! I am going to spend some time with my sisters who live there. They live in Fitzroy. I would love to catch up with you if you are around? Maybe we could go for dinner on Brunswick Street one night? Where do you live in Melbourne?

Let me know what you reckon!

Love
Alice xoxoxoxoxoxox

New words and phrases

Catch up: Spend time with someone and share news from each other's lives
What's new?: What is new in your life?
Reckon: Think (in Austraia we usually say 'what do you reckon' instead of 'what do you think?'
xoxoxoxo: x= kiss o= hug. We use this a lot! You can put as many kisses and hugs as you like. Even just one kiss! But never just one hug alon.

Ok! So what is going on here? Try to answer these questions in your workbook.

1) Who is the email to?
2) Who is the email from?
3) What is the subject of the email?
4) Where does Tara live?
5) Where does Alice live?
6) Where do Alice's sisters live?
7) What is the purpose of (reason for) the email?
8) When will Alice be in Melbourne?
9) Where does she want to meet Tara?
10) What does she want to do with Tara?
11) Why is it scary to go to the beach in Perth at the moment?

Great! Now, let me explain a few thing in this email.
Email explanation:
  • When you are writing an email you first need a greeting like 'Hi' or 'hey'.
  • Next you need to ask the person 'how are you?' or 'how is life?' or 'how is ___________'If you do not ask how they are it is very rude.
  • Usually we then give a little bit of information about our lives 'I'm pretty good...'
  • Then we write the reason for the email: 'I am coming to Melbourne! Do you want to catch up?'
  • Finally, we end with a statement or question like 'what do you think?' or 'Let me know what you think?'
  • Then we have a closing like 'love' or 'bye' and then our names
  • Kiss, hug, kiss, hug
Now try to write your own email!
